These new units in Berriedale are already welcoming their first tenants.

During July we reached an important milestone by passing the halfway point in delivering the Tasmanian Government’s target of 10 000 new homes by 2032, with 5 071 households now having achieved a housing outcome since October 2020.

This achievement reflects the dedication of Homes Tasmania staff and the strong partnerships we have built with the community housing and construction sectors.

In July, 77 households secured a housing outcome through a new social housing home, an affordable rental property, or support to purchase a home or land to build on.

Among the homes completed were 15 new units at Berriedale, which are already providing homes for families from the Housing Register. The medium-density development received $7.2 million through the Australian Government’s Social Housing Accelerator Payment (SHAP), alongside a $2.59 million funding and land contribution from Homes Tasmania.

SHAP is supporting the delivery of 128 units across seven projects around Tasmania. So far, 25 of these homes have been completed, with a further 65 homes expected to be completed in the coming months.

Homes Tasmania is also continuing to build the pipeline of future housing. In July, we purchased the strategically located 9.3-hectare Kensington Park site in New Norfolk, which has the potential to deliver around 105 residential lots as part of a future mixed-tenure development.

And at Higgs Court in Devonport, initial site works have begun on a 42-home social and affordable housing development, providing a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom homes for Tasmanians on low to moderate incomes, including older Tasmanians on the Housing Register.
