The new three-bedroom home in Rokeby is the first of 25 larger social housing homes being built across Tasmania to provide more housing options for larger families who need extra space.

While most households on the Housing Register require only one- or two-bedroom homes, there is also strong demand for larger properties. For families with children, finding a home with enough bedrooms can be particularly challenging, making the Statewide Family Homes program an important addition to Homes Tasmania’s housing delivery.

The program is delivering a mix of three-, four- and five-bedroom homes in communities across the state, giving more families access to safe, secure and appropriately sized housing.

The Rokeby home also marks another significant milestone – it is the first home in Australia that was funded under Round 2 of the Australian Government’s Housing Australia Future Fund to reach operations commencement.

Built by our construction partner Lyden Builders, the Rokeby home was completed four months ahead of schedule and is now welcoming its first tenants.

Construction is underway on the remaining 24 homes in the Statewide Family Homes program, with all expected to be completed by late next year.
