Homes Tasmania is seeking an independent consultant to review the Housing Register to ensure it continues to appropriately identify and represent housing need and demand as Tasmania’s housing landscape changes.

Housing Register review

The Housing Register is the single, statewide pathway for people seeking social housing, making it essential that its policies, processes and settings remain responsive to contemporary and emerging housing needs.

The review will consider whether existing policy settings continue to effectively support applicants and housing outcomes by examining four key areas:

  1. How housing need and demand are identified.
  2. How applications are assessed and prioritised.
  3. How available social housing is allocated.
  4. The governance, performance, data and systems supporting the Register.

The review will draw on evidence and stakeholder experience, including input from Housing Connect, community housing providers, specialist homelessness services, advocacy organisations, government agencies, applicants and social housing tenants.

The review is expected to commence in December 2026 and take approximately six months.

The review will provide an opportunity to identify what is working well, where improvements may be needed and potential options to ensure the Housing Register remains effective and fit for purpose into the future.
