The holiday season is a time for family and celebration, but for some Tasmanians it can also bring hardship, housing stress or homelessness.



Housing help is available over the holidays

And help is available for anyone who is concerned about their safety or housing situation.

If you or someone you know are experiencing family violence and need urgent assistance, phone Tasmania Police on Triple Zero (000) or the Family Violence Response and Referral Line on 1800 633 937.

Anyone experiencing homelessness or a housing crisis should contact Housing Connect on 1800 800 588.

Housing Connect can help you access a range of support and assistance, including crisis accommodation, material support, an overnight bed in a Safe Space facility, temporary accommodation (such as a hotel, motel or caravan park), or assistance in finding a long‑term home.

Housing and homelessness services will operate reduced opening hours over the holiday season but will still be available for emergencies over the phone.

From Monday, 5 January 2026, the Housing Connect Hobart office will be temporarily relocating to Level 3, 181 Collins St, while building works take place at the Anglicare office.

Housing Connect offices will be closed to face-to-face appointments as follows:

  • Hobart, 159 Collins Street – closed on public holidays only. (Note: From 5 January, Hobart services will temporarily relocate to Level 3, 181 Collins Street.)
  • Launceston, 118 Elizabeth Street – closed on public holidays only.
  • Devonport, 31 King Street – closed on public holidays only.
  • Burnie, 51 Wilmot Street – closed on public holidays only.
  • Smithton, Wyndarra Centre, 43 Smith Street – closed from 12pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025, reopens at 1pm on Monday, 5 January 2026.

Homes Tasmania offices will be closed from 1pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and reopen at 9am on Friday 2 January 2026.

Homes Tasmania tenants who need urgent maintenance works can still call 1300 665 663 for assistance.
