Homes Tasmania is continuing to deliver homes and housing opportunities to help more Tasmanians secure a home of their own.

March Dashboard story

The March Dashboard reports that 4 791 households have achieved a housing outcome since October 2020, including 69 households in March, contributing to the Tasmanian Government’s commitment of 10 000 social and affordable homes by 2032.

To build on this progress, we are expanding our construction pipeline with new projects that will deliver more social and affordable housing and unlock land for future housing developments.

In March, we released a tender seeking a construction partner for a 109-lot subdivision in Brighton. The development – next to the new Brighton High School – will offer future residents a well-connected and convenient place to live.

It will include a range of lot sizes to suit people’s different housing needs, from smaller lots suitable for affordable and low-maintenance townhouses and units, through to larger lots that can accommodate multiple dwellings and larger family homes.

Around 85 per cent of the lots will be released for purchase by Tasmanians looking to build their own home, including through the MyHome shared equity program. The remaining lots will be retained for social and affordable rental housing opportunities.

And we are advancing plans for new homes in Atkins Drive, Romaine, with construction tenders being sought through our builders panels. The development (pictured above and below) includes 18 two-storey, two-bedroom units that will be a mix of social and affordable rental housing.

Designed with comfort, safety and accessibility in mind, the homes will be suitable for people of all ages and abilities and will be adaptable to their changing needs over time. The homes will also achieve a 7-star energy rating, reducing heating and cooling costs for residents while lowering environmental impact.
