Homes Tasmania is committed to delivering more homes faster, and one of the ways we are doing this is through innovative construction methods such as modular housing.
These modern, energy-efficient homes can be built more quickly and efficiently than traditional onsite builds, helping us respond sooner to Tasmanians’ housing need.
Nine new modular homes have recently been completed at four sites across the state’s north – Scottsdale, George Town, Wynyard and Beauty Point.
The homes include eight two-bedroom units and one three-bedroom unit, all of which are being allocated to people on the Housing Register. The properties will be managed by our community housing partner, Loreto Community Housing.
Modular construction is also helping us support larger social housing households by providing backyard units for young people aged 15 to 25. These units give young people a safe and affordable place to live and helps them stay connected to family and community.

Since 2021, Homes Tasmania has delivered more than 250 modular homes across Tasmania, with a further 200 units currently in the pipeline. This growing program is expanding the range of housing options available and allows us to provide tailored solutions for individuals and families.
With homes built in a controlled factory environment, modular construction significantly reduces weather delays and allows multiple trades to work at the same time – cutting build times and accelerating delivery. Modular homes feature contemporary designs, sustainable materials and finishes, and offer the same long-term durability as traditional builds.
Modular construction is playing an important role in our social housing delivery program, helping more Tasmanians access the safe, stable housing they deserve.
