Homes Tasmania is continuing to deliver new housing opportunities for Tasmanians, including through more affordable private rentals, affordable home ownership and land for sale.

December 2025 Dashboard

The December Dashboard reported, a total of 4 597 homes had been completed towards the Tasmanian Government’s commitment of 10 000 social and affordable homes by 2032.

The latest Report on Government Services, released yesterday, highlights the achievements we have made in delivering new social housing homes. Key results include:

  • An 11.2 per cent increase in social housing – an additional 1 547 dwellings – since 2020, which is the highest growth rate in the country and an average of around 300 new dwellings each year.
  • Median wait times for public housing for Housing Register applicants with the greatest need fell from 23 months to 19 months during 2024–25.
  • All public housing allocations were made to people with the greatest need, compared to the national average of 84.6 per cent.

Tasmania continues to experience significant housing pressures, including vacancy rates remaining below 1 per cent across all major centres.

In response, Homes Tasmania delivered 24 additional affordable rentals in December to support Tasmanians facing barriers to securing housing. This assistance was underpinned by incentives offered to encourage private owners to make their properties available for affordable rent. It included six homes dedicated to Rapid Rehousing, which provides safe and affordable rental options for people affected by family violence.

Support for home ownership also continued to grow, with 26 new settlements through the MyHome shared equity program – 13 for existing homes and 13 for new builds, including house and land packages. MyHome helps Tasmanians enter the housing market by sharing upfront purchase costs, reducing both the required deposit and ongoing mortgage repayments.

Sophie, a MyHome participant who settled into her new home in December, said the program had transformed life for her family. “It means security and stability. And having a place for my daughter to grow up without having to move around is really great as well,” she said.
