Homes Tasmania is strengthening housing and support options for older Tasmanians on low incomes.
We have transferred the management of 34 units over three complexes in Devonport to specialist aged care provider Wintringham, who provides flexible, personalised support that recognises the diverse needs of older people, including those who have experienced homelessness.
Older Tasmanians on low incomes can face significant barriers to accessing affordable, safe and appropriate housing, which can result in people living in unsuitable accommodation. Transferring management of these homes to a specialist provider focused on older people will help improve their housing stability, wellbeing and access to support.

The transfers – a 13-unit complex in Gunn Street, a 12-unit complex in North Fenton Street and a nine-unit complex in George Street – are part of Homes Tasmania’s $20 million commitment to deliver 97 new homes and transition 54 existing dwellings across the North and North-West to Wintringham’s management.
This is one of the ways we are contributing to the Tasmanian Housing Strategy, which prioritises delivering more homes and support for older Tasmanians.
Tenants at the transferred unit complexes are already noticing improvements to their service and support.
“With the support of Wintringham, I’ve felt a sense of relief in knowing I haven’t had to manage or navigate the available services for older Tasmanians on my own,” one tenant said.
“It’s nice to begin seeing people, even just for a general chat,” said another.

Wintringham has provided tenancy management and housing support in southern Tasmania since 2021 and currently manages more than 170 independent living units across five sites, as well as a purpose-built residential aged care facility in Bellerive.
Homes Tasmania retains ownership of all properties that are under Wintringham’s management.
Wintringham also provides Housing Connect personalised support services for older Tasmanians statewide.
