Homes Tasmania is delivering improved supported accommodation for Tasmanians with medium to high support needs.

Indigo Lodge, which is managed by Anglicare Tasmania, plays a vital role in providing a safe, stable and supportive home for up to 30 residents.

After the completion of a $4.65 million program of works, the facility now offers a safer, healthier and more comfortable living environment that better supports residents’ independence and wellbeing.

The upgrades addressed critical infrastructure needs while improving the overall amenity for residents, including the complete replacement of the building’s roof, new air conditioning in all residents’ rooms and common areas, a full internal repaint, upgraded wireless internet infrastructure, carpet replacement where required, and structural repairs.

The upgrades have improved residents’ amenity across the site, including common rooms and gardens.

To ensure resident safety and minimise disruption, residents and staff were temporarily relocated to alternative accommodation during the seven-month construction period, returning to Indigo Lodge just in time for Christmas.

Residents are already noticing and commenting on their improved living conditions:

“It’s nice to be back where we are all together, I feel safe and the rooms are nice, bright and clean.”

“It’s so good to be able to keep cool on hot days in our rooms and common areas. it makes it more comfortable.”

“It is nice to back in the building and to see my friends after tea. I love seeing lighter paint, it’s much brighter.”

“It has motivated us all to want to keep everything clean and tidy, we want it to feel like home and want to be responsible for our place”.

Many residents are also using the upgraded spaces to display their artworks for visitors and their fellow residents to see.

Homes Tasmania provided funding of approximately $1.2 million with the remaining $3.45 million funded through the Australian Government’s Housing Support Program – Priority Works Stream.

Safe, appropriate housing is the foundation for better health and better futures. This investment in Indigo Lodge reflects Homes Tasmania’s ongoing commitment to ensuring every Tasmanian has a place where they feel supported, respected and at home.
