Homes Tasmania’s plans to deliver 20 new social and affordable rental homes in Westbury have taken a major step forward.
Vos Construction & Joinery has been awarded the contract to build the new units at 18 Franklin Street, Westbury, after a competitive Request for Works process through Homes Tasmania’s builders panels.
The project will provide 20 new single-storey, two-bedroom homes, helping to meet growing demand for social and affordable housing.
Located on Homes Tasmania-owned land, and behind existing social housing homes, the development represents an important investment in increasing housing opportunities for Tasmanians while making efficient use of well-located land within an established community.

Designed with comfort, safety and accessibility in mind, the homes will provide accommodation that is suitable for a range of households. The units will be built to the Silver level of the Livable Housing Design Guidelines, ensuring they are suitable for people of all ages and abilities.
The development will also deliver strong sustainability outcomes, with each home achieving a 7-star energy rating, helping residents reduce their energy use and household running costs while improving year-round comfort.
The project will provide a mix of social housing and affordable rental homes, creating additional housing options for people who may otherwise struggle to access suitable accommodation.
The development adds to Homes Tasmania’s ongoing work to increase the supply of housing across the state and respond to strong demand for affordable homes. Medium-density infill developments such as Franklin Street allow more homes to be delivered in locations that are already connected to local services, infrastructure and community facilities.

The project received planning approval from Meander Valley Council in September 2025 and is being jointly funded by Homes Tasmania and the Australian Government through Round 2 of the Housing Australia Future Fund.
Construction is expected to commence shortly. Once completed, the 20 new homes will be managed by Homes Tasmania.
