Women in need of housing will soon have access to more homes with 13 new social housing units in New Town ready to welcome their first tenants.
The new units in Boa Vista Rd.
The development – which includes 12 one-bedroom homes and one two-bedroom home – provides modern, secure and accessible housing for women aged 55 and over on the Housing Register.
Designed to support residents as their needs change over time, the homes meet the Silver Level of the Livable Housing Design Guidelines, with bathrooms delivered to the Gold Level. These features provide greater flexibility and adaptability, supporting women to age in place and remain independent for longer while helping reduce the need for costly modifications in the future.
The redevelopment has also made better use of well-located land, replacing seven former transitional housing units that were no longer fit for purpose with 13 modern homes.
The project adds to the range of housing options available specifically for women in Tasmania, helping provide more pathways to safe and secure accommodation.

Homes Tasmania partnered with Loreto Community Housing to deliver the development, which received $5.185 million in Australian Government funding through the Social Housing Accelerator Payment program. Homes Tasmania contributed a further $4.26 million through funding and land. Loreto Community Housing will manage the new homes and tenancies.
The project is one of seven across Tasmania receiving a combined $50 million through the SHAP program that is delivering 128 new social and affordable homes across the State.
The new homes also contribute to our target to deliver 10 000 social and affordable homes by 2032, helping more Tasmanians access housing that meets their needs and supports their wellbeing.
