The August Dashboard demonstrates how our partnerships are delivering more new homes and opportunities for Tasmanians.

Queens Walk

A total of 4 338 homes and lots of land have been completed towards the target of 10 000 social and affordable homes by 2032 as at 31 August 2025.

This included 2 136 units of social housing and supported accommodation, 996 affordable rentals, 1 036 affordable home purchases, 105 affordable lots of land and 119 units of crisis accommodation.

During August, work was completed on 65 new social and affordable units at Queens Walk, with the two new towers lifting the site’s total yield to 149 homes.

The development offers a mix of social and affordable rentals, giving more Tasmanian households access to safe, secure housing with rents set below market rates.

Homes Tasmania contributed $26.5 million in funding and a $7 million financing facility for the development. Delivery was led by community housing provider Housing Choices Tasmania and Tasmanian-owned construction company Fairbrother.

Queens Walk stands as a strong example of our medium-density infill development that makes the most of available urban land.

Our successful backyard units program is continuing to deliver secure housing for young people, with five more units installed during August.

Backyard units are affordable additions to social housing homes that provide young people aged 15-25 with a secure place to live while staying connected to their families. These units also help reduce the risk of youth homelessness by offering an alternative to insecure or unaffordable private rentals.

Also in August, qualified builders were invited to join the Huntingfield Land to Build Program. With titles for the first lots nearing completion, the next step is to select builders to deliver pre-designed house and land packages as part of this new master-planned community.

The program will prioritise quality, efficiency and affordability, helping to create a well-designed neighbourhood for Tasmanian families.
